Meditation is a powerful tool that helps us connect to our inner being.
As a beginner I used an app called Headspace and the person who guides the meditation explains it’s about observing your thoughts rather than actively trying to participate in them. Like watching traffic instead of running out into it.
There are many different types of meditations like mantra meditations, visualisation meditations, guided meditations, bird song meditations. Headspace was an excellent starting place for me and once I felt comfortable I started to explore the different types to see which ones I preferred depending on my mood.
People always say to me that there’s no way they could sit and do nothing for so long. I wouldn’t say meditating is doing nothing, after all you’re meditating. I never thought I’d be able to sit still for so long but I thought I’d give it a go. I started gradually with 3 minutes, then 5, 7 minutes, next 10 minutes… you get the idea. At the end of the day meditation is a PRACTICE so you just have to stick with it. Were you always good at something the first time you did it?
What have you got to lose? 3 minutes of your day? Big woop! I wouldn’t meditate on the toilet by the way, just in case you’re thinking of killing 2 birds with 1 stone
